the vagina is a symbol of semiotics to feminist art, the vagina is like the feminist art mascot. the image of the vagina is overly used in feminist art to desensitize you to it. so it doesnt have to be a dirty thing. female sexuality has always been repressed and seen as raunchy or slutty. but men can wave around their cocks and their phallic symbols and its seen as the norm, or its studly. the vagina is more public lately thanks to the vagina monologues. the play "the Vagina Monologues" has brought awareness to womens health and sexuality, as well as raised money to support womens causes. the vagina as it relates to the world wide web is still seen as raunchy, because the image of the vagina online is used as demeaning erotica. even the word "vagina" can get your blog sent up for review by Blogger. Blogger sent me an email saying they needed to look over my blog to approve it because of its content. i didnt even have anything up yet, it was just the title. this blog is intended as an art piece, to document my notebook and my meetings with people and to observe people's reactions to the body part that is the vagina. Vagina's are natural and i dont understand why the mere word would cause blogger to cringe. its a perfect example of what my project is about, i'm trying to analyze people's reactions when i ask them to draw my vagina. my vagina specifically because i want to feel the uncomfortablness factor people get when they are trying to picture my vagina in they're heads, and analyzing why drawing a vagina is uncomfortable, and how some people are so uneducated about vagina's that they dont even know what one looks like.
